Common questions
My Joy-Cons will not connect
Pair each Joy-Con with your iPhone in the iOS Settings app under Bluetooth first, not inside TheraJoy — iOS owns the pairing. Hold the small round button on the side of the controller until the lights run back and forth, then pick it from the Bluetooth list. Once both show as connected, open TheraJoy and select the tactile modality. If only one side buzzes, forget both controllers in Bluetooth settings and pair them again in order.
Do I need Joy-Cons to use TheraJoy?
No. Tactile stimulation also runs through the iPhone's own haptics, and there are two other modalities that need no extra hardware at all: a visual light bar on screen and alternating auditory tones. Joy-Cons give you a separate pulse in each hand, which some people prefer, but they are optional.
How do I join my therapist's session?
Download TheraJoy, open it, and choose Join a session. Enter the code your therapist gives you. You do not need an account and you do not need a subscription — clients always join free. Your therapist controls the speed, intensity and modality from their side while you talk over whatever video platform you are already using.
What speed should the stimulation run at?
TheraJoy runs from 0.25 Hz to 3 Hz and the rate can be changed without stopping the set. Slower rates suit resourcing and grounding; faster rates are more common during desensitization. If you are working with a therapist, follow their lead — they can adjust it live during a hosted session.
How do I cancel or change my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so they are managed in iOS Settings rather than in TheraJoy. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and select TheraJoy. Plus is $49 a year and Pro is $79 a year; the 7-day trial does not ask for a card and does not convert on its own.
Is TheraJoy a medical device?
No. TheraJoy is a wellness tool that delivers bilateral stimulation. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. Bilateral stimulation is one component of the EMDR protocol, not the therapy itself — for processing trauma, work with a trained clinician.
Still stuck?
Tell us what is happening and what you have already tried. If it is a bug, the device and iOS version help more than anything else.
In a crisis?
TheraJoy is not a crisis service. If you or someone you know is in acute distress, please call or text 988 (US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or your local emergency number.
